Sydney Sweibel
Mr. Sweibel is a founding partner of Sweibel Novek. With more than 30 years experience in taxation and business law, he counsels clients in all matters related to personal and corporate taxation, both domestic and international, including company mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and financing, trusts and estate planning.
His practice also focuses on providing strategic planning in the area of international taxation. He has extensive experience in dispute resolution involving federal and provincial authorities, as well as in tax litigation. Prior to establishing Sweibel Novek he was a senior tax partner with a prominent chartered accounting firm in Montreal.
Mr. Sweibel has been named as one of LawDay’s top 60 leading lawyers in Canada in the practice area of Estates and Trusts for 2009.
Mr. Sweibel is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF) and the Montreal branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He has authored numerous articles on taxation and has gained a reputation as an expert on tax reform, real estate taxation, as well as mergers and acquisitions. He has been a speaker at numerous conferences, including the Canadian Insolvency Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Meredith Memorial Lecture Series and has lectured on taxation at both Concordia University and McGill University.
Mr. Sweibel acts as director for several corporations and participates on the boards of a number of non-profit and charitable organizations. He is a past Governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation.
