Jennifer practices in the areas of tax planning and taxpayer representation. Her tax planning work focuses upon personal, estate, and international tax planning. Jennifer represents taxpayers in the context of audits, objections, and voluntary disclosures.
Jennifer has a special interest in Canada’s international tax treaties and multilateral agreements. She is valued for her ability to work through the complex provisions of the Income Tax Act (Canada), in particular, the foreign affiliate, non-resident trust, and foreign accrual property income rules. Jennifer enjoys working directly with clients, listening to their personal and business concerns, and guiding them through their tax disputes with the revenue authorities.
Jennifer is a regular contributor to STEP Inside, the Newsletter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (Canada). She has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course and attended the Canadian Bar Association’s Tax Law for Lawyers course. She is a member of the Association de Planification fiscal et financière.
Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science and Economics from McGill University and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia, where she won the Stikeman Elliot prize in Tax Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Barreau du Québec.
Prior to joining Sweibel Novek, Jennifer practiced in the tax department of a top tier firm in Toronto.
