Marcie’s practice focuses on tax and estate planning and corporate/commercial law for individuals and small and medium sized corporations, including private family businesses. Marcie advises clients with respect to tax and estate planning structures, involving estate freezes, trusts and shareholder agreements. She also represents clients in income and consumption tax disputes with the taxation authorities.
Marcie has extensive experience acting on a variety of corporate transactions, such as corporate reorganizations, asset and share purchases and partnership and shareholder matters. In addition, she provides legal services to healthcare professionals to achieve tax-effective business structures, including incorporations and sales of their practices.
Marcie obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, where she graduated on the Dean’s Honor List. She subsequently earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto and her Bachelor of Civil Law from the Université de Montréal where she graduated with great distinction. She has attended the Canadian Bar Association’s Tax Law for Lawyers course and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Marcie is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Barreau du Québec and placed first on the Quebec interprovincial transfer exams. Prior to joining Sweibel Novek, Marcie articled with a top tier firm in Toronto.
